Trail overview
The Cashew plant was brought by the Portuguese from Brazil. The plant flourished in the
region due to the soil and climatic condition. Since Goa was once a Spice hub, the Cashew
nut became very valuable. The early Friars extracted the juice from the fruit, let it ferment and distilled alcohol known as
Feni. Feni has been distilled ever since during the season ( Feb till May ) and now it is a
world recognised drink. This trail takes you to find the fruit at a local distillery where you can
witness the various stages of the process, from Nero the juice, natural fermentation,
Urrack, the first distillate and later Feni. It has an acquired taste, give it a try but drink responsibly.
